The Ninth Council District is one of the most dynamic, culturally diverse districts in the City of Los Angeles. We face significant challenges having to do with aging infrastructure, under-developed transportation systems, public safety, and a growing and under-served homeless population. All of these issues need regional and local solutions that include investment in new and affordable housing, smart growth with in-fill development along major transportation corridors, infrastructure improvements that can accommodate growth, and regional solutions that will address homelessness. I have fought to make improvements in all of these areas and will continue to push these priorities forward and work with you to continue our common mission of improving the overall quality of life in our diverse neighborhoods. The City of Los Angeles is facing an extremely difficult and challenging budget year. As a City, we are facing an over $500 million dollar budget deficit. There are painful cuts ahead. As we enter budget negotiations for fiscal year 2009-2010 (July 1, 2009 -June 30, 2010), I would like to hear from you. |
